Before looking at any of the other posts on the gallery this week, I decided to just go out there and take some pictures of what Easter means to me. At the end of a cold hard winter – full of shivers and worries about how to keep the heating to a temperature just above freezing so that we can still afford food as well – the break into spring is always welcome.
The daffodils signal an end to the winter hardships and by the time the blossom appears, I know that the worst of the weather is behind us for another six months. The sight of pink and white blossom against a – preferably blue, but any colour, really – sky means that nature is welcoming the warming atmosphere.
Seeds go in the garden and soon poke their small green heads through, and baby animals appear in the fields, skipping and bleating in a most heart-melting fashion. I have walked next to tiny lambs hopping and skipping but much as I wanted to take a picture, I had the dog under close control, so I didn’t dare get my phone out. The world is coming back to life, and it feels like a new beginning, full of hope and positivity. My pictures are only phone snaps, but what I wanted was to just sum up Easter.
It’s about playing outside without a hat, gloves and scarf, and relaxing rather than rushing. It’s about the beauty of flowers and baby animals. It’s about the meeting of friends and family and sharing great food.
And, of course, the chocolate :) Bunny left talcum powder paw prints to where he/she had left the hidden eggs, which was messy, but worth it to see the Cub’s face first thing in the morning.
Then he realised that the bunny couldn’t walk through walls and asked me if I had let him in the front door. Yes, I said, like Father Christmas, he sent me a text and I opened the door then went back to bed so that I wouldn’t see him.
